$2,000 Pet Protection Plan
Last updated: March 2025
Every booking made through Ferried automatically includes this protection at no extra cost.
1. Purpose of Protection
The Ferried Pet Protection Plan (“the Plan”) is designed to foster a secure and high-trust community for peer-to-peer pet transport. While Ferried is a marketplace and not a carrier, we provide this reimbursement program to assist Pet Owners with unexpected expenses incurred during a transport. By booking through the Ferried platform, you automatically agree to these terms.
2. Scope of Coverage
Subject to the conditions below, Ferried agrees to reimburse a Pet Owner for specific expenses resulting from physical injury, illness, loss, or abandonment of a pet while in the custody of a Transporter booked via the Platform.
- Reimbursement Limit: Up to $2,000.00 USD per pet, per incident.
- Post-Delivery Window: Coverage extends to professional veterinary services provided within 72 hours of the pet being returned to the Pet Owner's care, provided the condition is directly linked to the transport.
3. Eligible Expenses
- Emergency Veterinary Care: Treatment for acute injuries or sudden illnesses sustained during transit.
- Search & Recovery: Documented costs for recovering a pet in the rare event of a Transporter-related loss or abandonment.
- Fatalities: In the tragic event of a pet's passing during transit, coverage applies to necropsy fees (to determine cause) and related expenses up to the $2,000 limit.
4. Mandatory Exclusions (What Is Not Covered)
Ferried cannot provide reimbursement for expenses arising from:
- Pre-existing Conditions: Any injury, chronic illness, or condition for which the pet received medical advice or treatment prior to the transport.
- At-Risk Breeds: Respiratory or heat-related issues for brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds (e.g., French Bulldogs, Pugs) unless extraordinary negligence by the Transporter is proven.
- Owner Negligence: Failure of the Pet Owner to provide a safe, appropriately sized crate, or adequate food and medication for the duration of the trip.
- Routine Care: Vaccinations, grooming, flea/tick prevention, or elective procedures.
- Market Value: Loss of “show value,” breeding potential, or sentimental value beyond the $2,000 cap.
- Senior Pets: Health complications related to advanced age (typically 12+ years for small dogs, 8+ years for large dogs).
5. Claims Process & Documentation
To be eligible for reimbursement, the Pet Owner must:
- File an Incident Report: Submit a written notice to support@getferried.com within 10 days of the actual or scheduled delivery date.
- Provide Evidence: Include dated receipts from a licensed veterinarian, photos of injuries or crates, and any relevant communication with the Transporter.
- Police Reports: For claims involving theft, criminal acts, or abandonment, a formal police report filed in the relevant jurisdiction is required.
6. Processing Fees & Subrogation
Processing Fee: Approved injury/illness claims are subject to a 20% administrative processing fee (deducted from the total reimbursement). This fee is waived in cases of total loss or death.
Secondary Coverage: This Plan is secondary to any private pet insurance the Pet Owner may carry. Ferried will only reimburse costs not covered by the Owner's primary insurance provider.
Subrogation: Upon payment of a claim, Ferried acquires the Pet Owner's rights to recover those costs from any liable third party (including the Transporter).
7. Governing Law
This Plan and all related claims shall be governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any disputes arising under the Plan shall be resolved via binding arbitration in Michigan.
